#KeepSafetyOnTRACK The following are commonly overlooked safety issues that should be prevented to help improve safety performance:

1. Lack of House Keeping: A messy or dirty work area makes for an unsafe work environment.

2. Not using Lockout Tagout on equipment: The failure to lockout or tagout equipment and/or machinery needing repair leads to thousands of injuries each year. Often times, someone knew ahead of time that the equipment was not functioning properly. It is important to disable equipment and/or machinery as soon as it is known to not be functioning properly.

3. Improper Use of PPE: While common, it is not correct practice to wear hard hats backwards, to wear face shields that are scratched to the point of low visibility, or to put hearing protection in improperly.

4. Not having a process or plan: It is imperative to have a work plan for non-process work, as most workplace injuries occur when work being done is not part of a normal process. Asking questions such as, "What if....?" will assist with identifying hazards and preventing injuries.

5. Failure to communicate: In order to prevent unsafe conditions, it is imperative to discuss what unsafe acts or hazards have been noticed; communicating hazards and failures in processes help protect ourselves and our co-workers.
